Immigrating to the United States from Hong Kong, Ka Wong was fascinated with machinery and how things are constructed from an early age. He pursued mechanical engineering and received a master's degree from Columbia University. As an engineer, he has designed products for the aerospace industry where structure, weight and aerodynamics are a constant compromise.

His passion for woodworking and the user interface led him to establish Heys Instruments, designing and manufacturing high end electric violins. The Heys equalizer bridge was patented and delivers the most natural sound ( it does not sound electronic ) and enables technology to replicate the harmonic sound of an acoustic violin.

In his latest project he has broken down the design of a chair. Ka analyzes how a chair's structure supports the human sitting position in visual form.
